BLADEN COUNTY, NC — What started as an idea rooted in fellowship and faith has blossomed into a brand-new tradition in Bladen County.

The inaugural season of the Bladen County Church Softball League officially wrapped up this summer, bringing together churches from across the region for friendly competition, community, and Christ-centered connection.

With both men’s and women’s divisions taking the field, the league offered a new outlet for churches to gather outside their walls and engage in a shared mission: glorifying Jesus through sportsmanship and service.

The men’s league featured teams from Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Foundation Church, and Zion’s Hill Baptist Church out of Lumberton.

On the women’s side, Hickory Grove also fielded a team, joined by Galeed Baptist Church and a combined squad representing Hyde Park and Zion’s Tabernacle.

More than just softball, the league has quickly become a space for encouragement, relationship-building, and Christlike fellowship.

Whether it was a double play or a dugout prayer, the heart behind each game remained the same—striving to become more like Jesus every day.

Plans are already in motion for next season, with hopes of expanding to six or more teams in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

Organizers are looking to utilize fields throughout the county and beyond, creating more opportunities for churches to come together.

Anyone interested in joining or helping with next year’s season is encouraged to contact league director Rayna Beck.

It’s clear that something special has begun—and it’s only just getting started.
