Lake Waccamaw, NC - The Bladenboro softball team continues to grow as the season progresses, despite falling 8-1 to a strong East Columbus squad on the road Thursday.

Now sitting at 2-2 on the season, the Lady Bulldogs showed flashes of improvement, especially on defense, even as a few key errors proved costly in the outcome.

Maycee Kinlaw took the mound for Bladenboro and also sparked the team’s offense with a hard-hit triple. Her hustle around the bases paid off as she came around to score the Lady Bulldogs’ lone run of the game. Kinlaw kept battling through innings in the circle, showing grit against a disciplined East Columbus lineup.

Adyson Carroll chipped in with a single and drove in Kinlaw for the team’s only RBI, showing patience and good contact at the plate. Hadley Dove also gave the Bulldogs a lift offensively, working a walk and showing her base-running instincts by advancing all the way to third.

Kylee Davenport and Hailii Andrews each drew walks as well, with Andrews making her way to second base before the inning closed. Carley Rhodes added to the walk tally, finding her way on base and helping to wear down the East Columbus pitcher over the course of the game.

Though Caity McLaurin, Kristen Singletary, Kaylee Fisher, and Becca Arnold didn’t find the hit column in this contest, they each contributed by staying engaged, supporting their teammates, and battling in the box.

Despite the final score, the Lady Bulldogs looked more confident and cohesive in the field compared to previous outings. With more experience under their belts and a commitment to tightening up defensively, Bladenboro continues to trend in the right direction as they head deeper into the season.

Bladenboro will take on Clarkton on the road on Wednesday.
