Bladenboro Middle School's softball team showcased a gritty effort this week, battling through two close games against West Columbus and Central. In a thrilling back-and-forth matchup on Monday, the team narrowly edged out West Columbus 14-13.

However, on Tuesday, despite leading most of the game, Bladenboro ultimately fell to Central 14-5 after a tough sixth inning.

Monday’s Game: Bladenboro 14, West Columbus 13

The first game of the week took the team to West Columbus, where Bladenboro fought hard to secure a 14-13 victory. The offense was led by a dynamic performance from several players.

Adyson Carroll was a standout, contributing a triple, a single, and an RBI, scoring three times during the game. Caity McLaurin also was a standout, collecting three singles, a double, and driving in three RBIs while crossing the plate twice herself.

Kristen Singletary was a major presence at the top of the lineup, walking once, hitting a single, and scoring four times, while Hadley Dove reached base multiple times and helped her team with two runs scored and a double.

Maycee Kinlaw not only played a key role offensively, with two runs scored and a hit, but she also showed her prowess on the mound, pitching two innings with six strikeouts to help hold off West Columbus late in the game.

Bladenboro’s pitchers, Hadley Dove and Maycee Kinlaw, combined for a strong performance.

Dove went four innings, allowing five hits and striking out six, while Kinlaw came in for the last two innings, striking out six batters and keeping the opposition at bay to hold on to the lead for the win.

Tuesday’s Game: Bladenboro 5, Central 14

The second game of the week saw Bladenboro hosting Central in a battle that saw the home team leading for most of the game.

Bladenboro went into the sixth inning with a 5-3 lead, but a challenging top of the sixth inning saw Central erupt for 10 runs, ultimately sealing the game with a 14-5 victory.

Despite the loss, Bladenboro's offense showed resilience. Kinlaw once again proved her all-around skills, going 2-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run, a single, and two runs scored, adding one RBI.

Adyson Carroll also contributed heavily with three singles, two runs scored, and an RBI. Caity McLaurin continued her solid form, hitting a double and reaching on an error to bring in another run.

Kristen Singletary chipped in with two hits, including a double, while Kaylee Fisher reached base on an error and added a single and an RBI.

Carley Rhodes also made an impact with a triple, single, and a run scored.

On the mound, Maycee Kinlaw went the full seven innings, striking out 12 batters, walking eight.

Bladenboro will play at Elizabethtown on Monday, April 28th following Spring Break.
