Elizabethtown, NC - East Bladen's baseball team showed grit and determination on Tuesday night but came up just short against Heide Trask, falling 2-0 in a hard-fought contest at home.

Right-hander Jayce Hatcher turned in a stellar performance on the mound for the Eagles, going the distance with seven strong innings. Hatcher scattered six hits across the night and allowed just two earned runs.

Even more impressively, he didn’t issue a single walk and struck out eight batters, keeping East Bladen within striking distance throughout the game.

Trask managed to scrape together a pair of runs in the early innings. In the top of the second, T. Cheatam crossed the plate on a single to center by C. Kibbey.

An inning later, M. Wiler came home on a double off the bat of C. Uhland, giving the visitors a 2-0 advantage that would hold for the rest of the evening.

Offensively, the Eagles had a few bright spots. Tyler Eason led the team with a base hit, showing solid contact at the plate.

Debo Lewis, Colton Daly, and Zach Sholar each displayed patience and discipline in the batter’s box, drawing walks.

East Bladen will look to bounce back quickly as they return to the diamond Wednesday for a home game against South Columbus. First pitch is set for 7 p.m., and the Eagles will be eager to turn things around in front of their home crowd.
