East Bladen Track & Field Shines at Waccamaw Conference Championship

Rocky Point, NC - The East Bladen Eagles showed up in full force at the 2025 Waccamaw Conference Track and Field Championship, leaving their mark across the sprints, distance events, hurdles, relays, and field competitions.
Tevin McLean turned in a standout sprinting performance, placing 5th in the 100 Meter Dash (11.28) and earning a podium finish in the 200 Meter Dash at 3rd (22.81). Dominick Collins proved his range by finishing 12th in the 100 (11.93) and capturing 3rd in the 400 Meter Dash (55.01), with teammates Chace Butler (5th, 55.38) and Juanito Alvarado (8th, 56.60) not far behind.
Xavier Potts delivered a 4th-place finish in the 800 (2:19.00), while Ethan Metz crossed at 7th (2:21.94). In the 1600, Brayan Johnson (7th, 5:52.21), Kaden Johnson (8th, 5:55.86), and Tyler Richardson (13th, 6:48.68) ran solid races. Kaden returned for the 3200 and claimed 6th (13:46.67).
Jayden Hawkins showed his strength in the hurdles, placing 5th in the 110m (20.67) and capturing gold in the 300m hurdles (44.29), a championship-winning run. Macurey Sheppard earned top-10 finishes in both events (6th in 110m, 8th in 300m).
The boys 4x100 Relay team won gold, blazing to a 43.98 mark. East Bladen also finished 2nd in the 4x200 (1:33.68), 2nd in the 4x400 (3:50.03), and 2nd in the 4x800 (9:29.38)—each a testament to their relay depth and consistency.
In field events, Kevin Clark led the way in the long jump (6th, 17-11), followed by Kewone Maynor (9th, 17-7) and Jaden Lewis (10th, 17-5). Lewis also placed 10th in the triple jump (34-0), and Clark added an 11th-place mark (32-9).
Dashon Campbell won gold in the discus with a throw of 123-6 and added a 6th-place finish in shot put (34-3). Teammates William Borza and Cereal Maye rounded out the discus placements, while Malik Banks and Borza also competed in shot put.
Distance runner Zariyah Hammonds delivered a dominant day, sweeping the 800 (2:50.80), 1600 (6:25.60), and 3200 (16:01.84) to become a triple conference champion.
Laila Smith added two more individual titles, winning the 100 Meter Hurdles (17.55) and 300 Meter Hurdles (50.14). She was joined on the hurdles podium by Ariel Cromartie, who placed 3rd in the 100m (19.32), and Layla Lent, who finished 5th in the 100m (20.33) and 7th in the 300m (57.41).
In sprints, Montierra Richardson (13.83), Cabria Baldwin (14.07), and Trinity Kemp (14.39) all represented East Bladen in the 100 Meter Dash. Cromartie (7th, 28.88), Richardson (9th, 29.45), and Arian Fields (11th, 30.82) competed in the 200.
Kamariah Rhodi finished 5th in the 400 (1:09.58), while Gabrielle Williams (8th, 1:17.16) and Allysa Stringfield (9th, 1:19.26) rounded out East Bladen’s strong sprint lineup.
The Lady Eagles were impressive in relays:
2nd in the 4x200 (1:53.32)
2nd in the 4x400 (5:01.14)
4th in the 4x100 (53.51)
In the field events, Naihema Leach earned 6th in the long jump (12-5) and 7th in the triple jump (26-10.5). Cabria Baldwin added a 6th-place finish in discus (59-11) and took 3rd in shot put (26-11). Jamiya Peterson (9th shot put, 22-6; 11th discus, 55-10) and Ta'mani Brown (15th in both events) also contributed.
