Chapel Hill, NC – The West Bladen Knights capped off a successful golf season on Tuesday, May 6th, by competing in the 2A Mid-East Regional Championship held at The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club. Tee times began at 9 a.m., and the Knights teed it up against some of the region’s top programs in a competitive field on one of North Carolina’s most demanding courses.

West Bladen finished eighth overall with a team score of 386, a respectable showing for a young squad that has continued to gain momentum throughout the year.

After placing second in the Southeastern Athletic Conference (SAC 6) during the regular season, the Knights carried that momentum into regional play and gained invaluable experience on a course known for its mental and physical demands.

One freshman golfer reflected on the challenge of the day, noting how the layout of The Preserve at Jordan Lake wasn’t just about hitting good shots, but managing fatigue and staying locked in over 18 holes. “The course can wear you down,” he said. “But it was a great experience and something I’ll take with me for the next few years.”

Leading the way for the Knights were Seth Faircloth and Nolan Sessoms, each posting rounds of 93.

Sessoms, the lone senior on the roster, finished his high school golf career on a high note.

Freshman Jonathan Gooden turned in a round of 100, showing flashes of potential as he battled through the back nine. Fellow freshman Gavin Brisson matched that score with a 100 of his own.

Sophomore Evan Melvin rounded out the team’s performance with a 106, contributing to the team total and continuing his growth in tournament play.

Though the Knights won’t advance further this postseason, the experience gained at regionals will be a cornerstone as they look ahead. With a core of underclassmen returning and postseason golf under their belts, West Bladen’s future looks bright on the links.

Congratulations to the Knights on a strong season and a proud showing at regionals.
