West Bladen Varsity Baseball Weekly Recap

Wednesday: Knights Lose at South Columbus 3-1

TABOR CITY, NC – In a hard-fought battle on Wednesday night, the West Bladen Knights found themselves edged out by South Columbus, falling 3-1 in a game defined by pitching and key defensive moments.

West Bladen struck first in the third inning when Brady Durden laced a clutch hit to drive in Jonah Bryan, putting the Knights on the board.

However, South Columbus responded quickly, evening the score in the bottom half of the inning.

The game remained a tense, low-scoring affair until the fifth, when the Stallions capitalized on a costly error, allowing J. Watts and W. Sullivan to cross the plate and take the lead, which they held the remainder of the game.

Despite solid performances at the plate from Durden and Ashton Davis, West Bladen was unable to generate the offensive spark needed to regain control.

On the mound, Garrett Dunham put up a strong fight, racking up six strikeouts and keeping the Knights within striking distance, but the late defensive mishap proved to be the turning point.

Friday: Knights Storm Back to Beat Swansboro 4-2

SWANSBORO, NC – Determined to shake off their midweek loss, the Knights hit the road and delivered a gritty 4-2 victory over Swansboro on Friday night, showcasing timely hitting.

The game didn’t start in West Bladen’s favor, as Swansboro quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, scoring on a passed ball and a groundout.

However, the Knights refused to back down.

In the third inning, Garrett Dunham delivered in a crucial moment, smacking a double that brought home Allister Russ.

Moments later, Ashton Davis stepped up and knocked a single into play, allowing Dunham to sprint home and tie the game.

With the momentum shifting, West Bladen took advantage of Swansboro’s miscues in the fourth inning, as Hunter Hester alertly sprinted home on a passed ball to give the Knights their first lead of the night.

The insurance run came in the seventh when Cade Allen capitalized on an error to stretch the lead to 4-2.

Dunham and Davis led the charge offensively, each delivering key RBIs, while Davis’s hot bat saw him finish the night with three hits.

Meanwhile, Swansboro struggled to string together hits against West Bladen’s steady pitching and defensive efforts.

After splitting the games this week, the Knights hold a 5-1 record, now setting their sights on a Wednesday rematch at home against South Columbus, eager for redemption and another chance to showcase their growing strength on the field.
