Bladenboro, NC - The East Bladen JV baseball team put together a week of competitive play in front of their home crowd, taking down Trask with a convincing 13-5 win before falling to a strong South Columbus squad, 14-6. Both games were played in Elizabethtown, where the young Eagles showed flashes of their potential on both sides of the ball.
East Bladen 13, Trask 5
In the opener against Trask, the Eagles came out aggressive and took full advantage of defensive miscues.
Cade Rogers led the charge at the top of the order, reaching base four times—including once with a sharp single—and crossing the plate three times. His ability to pressure the defense set the tone early.
Omar Powell matched Rogers’ impact, finding ways to get on base with three walks and turning those opportunities into three runs. Chandler Wall added to the scoring frenzy with a single, a walk, and two trips on Trask errors, eventually crossing the plate twice.
Jaxon Hair didn’t light up the box score but played a selfless role, advancing runners with a fielder’s choice. Fox Sutton gave the fans something to cheer about with a solid double and also reached on an error.
J.D. McArthur kept the line moving with a base hit, a walk, and a run scored, while also reaching on an error. Brice Scott had a standout night at the plate, collecting two singles, drawing a walk, and coming around to score three times. Ryne Priest chipped in by working a walk and moving into scoring position. Mason Smith added a run to the tally, rounding out a balanced offensive effort.
On the mound, Fox Sutton got the start and turned in a strong five-inning performance, keeping Trask’s bats in check. Mason Smith closed things out with a clean final frame, sealing the win.
South Columbus 14, East Bladen 6
The Eagles ran into a tougher test in their second game of the week, facing off against a talented South Columbus lineup. Still, there were plenty of bright spots for East Bladen.
Cade Rogers kept producing at the plate, picking up a single and scoring a run. Powell added another run of his own, staying patient and drawing a walk. Chandler Wall stayed hot with two singles and crossed the plate twice, continuing his streak of getting on base.
The breakout bat of the game belonged to Jaxon Hair, who ripped three singles and scored two runs. Fox Sutton showcased his power with a triple and added another trip to first after forcing an error. J.D. McArthur reached base on a walk, and Brice Scott reached on an error but was thrown out attempting to steal.
On the mound, Rogers got the starting nod and worked into the fifth inning before giving way to Scott, who faced the bulk of the South Columbus lineup. Ryne Priest came in to pitch to the final four batters and closed out the game.
With a 1-1 record on the week, the Eagles now look ahead to a rematch against Trask on Friday night—this time on the road.
If East Bladen can carry their offensive spark and tighten up on the mound, they’ll be in great shape for another strong showing.
