Lady Eagles Volleyball Split Intense Road Matches at South Columbus

TABOR CITY, NC — East Bladen’s varsity volleyball team battled through four intense sets Tuesday night but came up just short in a hard-fought 3-1 loss to South Columbus.
The Lady Eagles came out strong in the opening set, controlling the pace and taking a 25-13 win. South Columbus answered in the second set with a 25-16 victory, then edged out a tight 25-23 win in the third.
The fourth set went into a deuce, with both teams trading points and refusing to give in, but the Lady Stallions managed to pull away late for a 26-24 win to close the match.
Marlee Potter recorded 2 aces and 2 kills, while Ariel Cromartie added a kill. Taylor Dowless turned in a balanced performance with 3 aces and 5 kills. Cabria Baldwin finished with 1 ace and 2 kills, and Mileigh Martin tallied 3 aces.
Tatum Allen provided a spark from the service line with 6 aces, and Nadya Colon added 2 aces. Aubrei Nixon was active at the net with 7 kills and 2 solo blocks.
In the junior varsity matchup, East Bladen came away with a straight-set win, defeating South Columbus 25-14 and 25-15.
Harlie Shaw led the way at the service line with 9 aces. Bella Beard powered home 4 kills, while Tenley Dowless added a kill and a solo block.
Maylin McMichael kept the offense moving with 4 solid attack attempts, and Julia Flowers chipped in 2 aces and a kill.
Gracey Edwards added a kill, and Addie Douglas provided steady play in the back row with 3 digs and 2 aces.
Chloe Merritt and Avianna Whittington contributed with hustle and energy, helping keep the team’s momentum strong throughout both sets.
East Bladen will return to action Thursday at Heide Trask, with the JV match starting at 4 p.m. and varsity to follow.
