Elizabethtown, NC - The East Bladen softball team dropped a hard-fought 5-0 contest to East Duplin. With the loss, the Lady Eagles move to an even 8-8 overall record and finish Waccamaw Conference play at 6-6.
The game's only scoring came in the second inning, when East Duplin put together a five-run surge that would ultimately decide the game.
Despite the early deficit, East Bladen settled in defensively behind a gritty complete-game performance by pitcher Jenna Brice. Brice threw all seven innings, allowing just three hits and no earned runs.
She issued three walks and recorded a strikeout, keeping the Lady Panthers quiet outside of the second inning. Her poise in the circle gave the Eagles a chance throughout.
At the plate, East Bladen couldn’t string together enough offense to rally, but several players found ways to get on base.
Niyah Wooten continued her consistent production, notching a single to break into the hit column. Jenna Brice and Taylor Dowless also added singles, while Gabriella Bray showed patience at the plate, earning a walk to reach safely.
Martha Simmons, Tatum Allen, Gracie Edwards, Mollie Tolar, and Zoie Durden each battled through their at-bats across the lineup, working deep into counts and trying to spark the Eagles offensively against a tough East Duplin defense.
Though the result wasn’t what the Lady Eagles hoped for, their resilience after the second inning and the strong outing from Brice are positive signs as they head into the final stretch of the season.
