Varisty Girls Basketball: Union Girls 57, West Bladen 37

BLADENBORO, NC — Centavia McKoy and Zadariyah Faison combined for 44 points Thursday night to lead Union to a 57-37 non-conference girls’ basketball victory over West Bladen.
McKoy, a 5-6 junior, poured in 26 points and connected on four 3-point shots. Faison, a senior, threw in a trio of 3-pointers and finished with 18 points. Teammate Makayla Hall netted 8 points.
Senior Natalee Sykes buried a 3-point shot and another basket, and freshman Hadley Dove added a basket to keep the Lady Knights within 10-7 at the quarter break.
Six points from McKoy and 5 from Hall kept the Lady Spartans up 28-21 at halftime. Senior Kali Allen and freshman Abigail Dew bombed in 3-pointers and tossed in another basket each for West in the 2nd quarter.
Sophomore Amiya McCarty sank 3 free throws, and senior Tah’lela Bethea hit one for the Lady Knights.
Bethea worked inside for 2 buckets and a free throw in the 3rd period. Sykes drained a 3-pointer and McCarty cashed in another free throw. Seven points from Faison padded the visitors lead to 38-30.
McKoy rang up 10 points in the final quarter, and Faison chipped in with 6 as Union extended the lead. Sykes drilled in a 3-point shot and another basket for West, and Allen tacked on 2 free throws.
Sykes led the Lady Knights with 13 points, and Allen followed with 7 points. Bethea popped in 6 points, Dew tallied 5 points, and McCarty totaled 4 points.
West Bladen will host West Columbus Friday night.
