Elizabethtown, NC - Emereau celebrated its eighth-grade softball players in a big way on Thursday, delivering a 20-5 victory over Tar Heel in front of a supportive home crowd.
The win was fueled by a flurry of offensive firepower and shared contributions across the roster, while also honoring the impact and leadership of the program’s oldest players.
Before first pitch, Emereau recognized its eighth-grade athletes: Mollie Sasser, Angelina Jones, Makynzee Thompson, Chloe Merritt, Emma Adams, Tinsley Allen, and Sierra Thompson. And once the game began, many of those same players made their presence known at the plate and in the field.

Emma Adams put together a well-rounded day, reaching base twice on walks and scoring three times, including a long ball that cleared the outfield for a home run. Sierra Thompson had a stellar all-around performance as well, notching two singles and a double while crossing the plate three times and also logging time in the circle as one of Emereau’s pitchers.
Angelina Jones showed patience and contact at the plate with two singles and a walk while scoring twice. Mollie Sasser chipped in with a single, a walk, and a run scored, while also contributing on the mound. Makynzee Thompson provided a spark with a single, a double, and a powerful home run that ignited her teammates as she tallied two runs.
Khloe Campbell stayed hot at the plate with two singles and a walk, scoring twice for the Eagles. Chloe Merritt displayed great discipline at the plate with three walks and scored twice, and she too contributed on the pitching staff alongside Sasser and Thompson. Keri Burgess made the most of her chances, walking once, and coming around to score three runs. Rylee White blasted a home run of her own.
Alana Wilkins had a productive outing, reaching base on a single and a hit-by-pitch, and scoring twice. While Harper Allen, Julianna Autry, Presleigh Edwards, and Layla C. didn’t show up as prominently in the scorebook, their presence on the field helped fuel the team’s energy and overall cohesion in what was a total team win.
Tar Heel, though facing a tough opponent, showed grit and resilience throughout the contest. Shaley M. sparked a scoring opportunity with a single and later came around to score. Peyton N. added a base hit and crossed the plate as well.
Brookelynn had one of the Bulldogs’ best days, reaching base twice—including a single and a walk—and scoring two runs. Genesis showed patience at the plate with two walks and also scored.
Chassidy D. battled through her at-bats and reached second base after being hit by a pitch, while Taurihanna reached on an error and drew a walk to get on base. Joanna tallied a single in one of her plate appearances.
Despite the loss, Tar Heel’s lineup demonstrated effort and hustle, showing promise and a positive attitude throughout.
